Wellies On, Smiles Out: A Rain-Soaked January at Hernhill
January has certainly thrown all kinds of weather our way, but that hasn’t stopped life at Hernhill from being full of laughter and learning. The children have fully embraced the rain - splashing through muddy puddles and reminding us that this time of year really does put our OPAL resolve to the test! Waterproofs on, smiles out.
There has been plenty of healthy competition too, with Year 6, Year 5 and Year 2 teams taking part in the annual Wake Up and Shake Up competition. Their enthusiasm was infectious - and Mrs Ganderton has given up countless lunchtime hours to help the children perfect their routines. Huge congratulations to Year 2 and Year 5, who both secured first place. An incredible effort all round! This term, it’s Year 4’s turn to head to the swimming pool in Faversham, and they are doing brilliantly. Meanwhile, Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their Forest School sessions.
We have also enjoyed some fantastic Collective Worships. Year 6 delivered a powerful and moving worship for parents linked to their World War 2 learning, including beautifully sung songs that captured the emotion of the period. They are now eagerly looking forward to their local history walk to RAF Dunkirk - rain permitting! Year 3 wowed us all with their Ancient Egypt worship, even demonstrating how a body would be mummified, much to everyone’s fascination.
Despite the grey skies, January has been full of memorable moments. What a brilliant start to the year - rain and all!
