The autumn term has been equally busy with events. Many of us dressed in yellow on a day in October to highlight the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Year 2 held their Macmillan coffee afternoon for parents, carers and friends and raised an incredible £451.36. We held our first rehearsal for the Young Voices concert at the O2 in January.
The Family Trust visited us for the first time this year to lead our collective worship.
We held three prospective parent tours of the school – if you have a child in your family who is due to start school in September 2023 and wish to have an official tour, please contact Mrs Sunley who will book you on one of the tours – places are being booked up quickly!
Year 3 enjoyed forest school sessions, Year 2 visited Canterbury cathedral, had a guided tour and made stained glass windows, and our school football team held their first football match of the season - a win!
Our Year 6 children joined 850 other Year 6 pupils at Canterbury Cathedral for one of the Cathedral Schools Days in early November - the first on-site days in three years. The children explored the Cathedral, focusing on a theme of looking after and preserving special places. The day gave our children the opportunity to turn their hands to the ancient arts of stonemasonry and stained-glass window making, as well as engaging in drama, costume trails around the Cathedral and prayer spaces. In the afternoons, all the schools gathered together for inspiring acts of worship in the Cathedral Nave. The pupils were joined by an archdeacon and we were honoured to be asked to provide two pupils to lead the act of worship. The two girls did brilliantly and were a credit to themselves and to the school.
We were very touched to be joined by so many members of the local community at our moment of remembrance on 11th November. Huge thank yous go to our Year 5 class for repainting all the poppies on our Poppy Memorial in the car park in advance of the event. The children sang and read beautifully, and having one of our Year 6 children play The Last Post on the flute was particularly poignant.
November has also been a very sporty month for us. We have had a team of Year 5/6 children take part in the East Kent Sports Partnership Basketball tournament, our Year 6 visited Herne Bay High for an afternoon of roller skating and a team of Year 2/3 children took part in the Unihoc Cornerball Festival (again organised by the East Kent Sports Partnership). In addition, our school football team played their first few league matches against local schools.
And now we head into December with the sound of nativity song rehearsals spreading down the corridors on a daily basis. We are very much looking forward to welcoming parents and carers into school for the performances - the first for three years.
