October 2024 news

October was a busy month of hosting for the school!

At the start of the month, we were delighted to host a film night for the church and many members of the local community showing a documentary about the incredible sailing achievements of Hilary Lister. Hilary had the progressive condition reflex sympathetic dystrophy and controlled her ship by using sip-and-puff technology for steering and sails. A very moving piece of film-making.

The following week, we hosted groups of Year 5 pupils from local schools in our collaboration (Ospringe, Davington, Boughton, Ethelbert and Luddenham) for the day providing Digital Leader training for them all. The children attending took part in lots of activities, learning how to be leaders of Online Safety for their peers back at their schools.

We have also started hosting our prospective parent tours and are delighted that we already seem to have all nine dates fully booked up, and have needed to add some extra dates!

We were delighted to welcome the Very Reverend David Montieth, Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, to our school just before half term. Dean David led our collective worship reminding us of the importance of friendship and was then given a guided tour of our playtime including the sand pit and the child-built dens at the back of the field! We also welcomed lots of parents and carers that week to our OPAL lunchtimes so they could come and experience the play on offer at school. Great fun was had by all.

And as we get to the end of Term 1, we can certainly say that among other lessons and activities, Year 2 enjoyed their badminton coaching, Year 3 their forest school sessions and Year 5 their swimming lessons. What a busy term!
